PREPARE YOUR HEART FOR THE SERMON BY LOOKING THROUGH THESE SUGGESTIONS THAT WILL ASSIST YOU IN MAKING THE MOST OF OUR TIME TOGETHER HEARING GOD'S WORD.

You will find suggestions for thinking more critically through the passage, meditating more intently on the text, and prayerfully seeking wisdom to deepen your understanding of the passage to be preached this Sunday.

Carefully Think

  • This week's sermon will focus on the topic of Eschatology. How do you define eschatology in relation to the second coming of Jesus Christ?
  • Read through 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. How should Jesus' second coming affect how Christians grieve the loss of loved ones?
  • Read through 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12. What effect does Jesus' second coming have on anxiety over the future?
  • Read through 2 Peter 3:8-13.  How does the second coming of Jesus affect how we live?
  • Read through 1 Corinthians 15:50-58. How should the second coming of Jesus create stability in our lives?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • Do you think eschatology is an important doctrine for Christians to understand? Why or why not?
  • Do you meditate on the second coming of Christ often? Why or why not?
  • How could we understand how the second coming of Christ shapes how we live out our lives daily?
  • Are you eagerly anticipating the return of Christ at any moment? Why or why not?
  • How we study scripture has an impact on how we understand God's Word and how it applies to us. Have you taken steps to strengthen your ability to study God's word here at SWBC, not just learning about it, but "HOW to study"?
  • What other sources outside of God's word inform your thinking on eschatology? Write out a list of all other resources that pour into aside from the Bible, and the preaching and teaching here at SWBC. If you are not sure if they are good sources, seek out an elder to help you evaluate.
