Living in Light of God
PREPARE YOUR HEART FOR THE SERMON BY LOOKING THROUGH THESE SUGGESTIONS THAT WILL ASSIST YOU IN MAKING THE MOST OF OUR TIME TOGETHER HEARING GOD'S WORD.

You will find suggestions for thinking more critically through the passage, meditating more intently on the text, and prayerfully seeking wisdom to deepen your understanding of the passage to be preached this Sunday.

Carefully Think

  • Read vv. 1-6. Who is David speaking to in this Psalm? How is He addressed in the first 6 verses? How is he addressed in v. 7? What does this tell us?
  • Note the 3 conditional (if...then...) statements in vv. 8-10. Write them out separately. Compare and contrast these 3 statements. What do you notice?
  • What are the places David mentions in vv. 8-10?
  • Why are these 4 places significant? (Note: think geographically about where Israel is situated)
  • Where/what is heaven in v. 8?
  • Where/what is Sheol in v. 8?
  • What is the Lord’s perception of the darkness in v. 12? Why is this significant for the point David is making in this section?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • What is the overall message about God’s presence in these verses?
  • What question is David asking in v. 7? Why would he ask this question?
  • Look up Psalm 5:8, 23:3, 27:11, 31:3, 61:2, 139:24, and 143:10. What is David’s view of the Lord leading him? What does David mean in v.10 when he speaks of the Lord’s hand leading him?
  • Look up Ps 16:11, 17:7, 18:35, 20:6, 60:5, 63:8, 108:6, and 138:7. How does David view the right hand of the Lord for his people? How does that inform our understanding of v. 10?
