Exodus Sermon Image Square
PREPARE YOUR HEART FOR THE SERMON BY LOOKING THROUGH THESE SUGGESTIONS THAT WILL ASSIST YOU IN MAKING THE MOST OF OUR TIME TOGETHER HEARING GOD'S WORD.

You will find suggestions for thinking more critically through the passage, meditating more intently on the text, and prayerfully seeking wisdom to deepen your understanding of the passage to be preached this Sunday.

Carefully Think

  • Read Exodus 8. Make observations about the following as you read:

    • God – what is he doing/saying?
    • Moses and Aaron – what are they doing/saying?
    • Pharaoh – what is he doing/saying?
    • The Egyptian magicians – what are they doing/saying?
  • How are the people of Israel described in vv. 1, 20-24? Why is this significant?

  • What is the reason God tells Moses to tell Pharaoh to let his people go? (Note v. 1, 20)

  • Why does God say he’s doing what he’s doing in the plagues? (Note v. 10 and 22)

  • What were the magicians able to replicate? What were they not able to replicate? What was their response?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • Consider how the Lord thinks about his people as described in this chapter. How should this impact how you think about how the Lord views you?

  • Consider the difference between YHWH and the gods of the Egyptians as displayed in this chapter. What is the difference? What should your response be?

  • Consider why God does what he does in this chapter. What should your response to this be?
