Exodus Sermon Image Square
PREPARE YOUR HEART FOR THE SERMON BY LOOKING THROUGH THESE SUGGESTIONS THAT WILL ASSIST YOU IN MAKING THE MOST OF OUR TIME TOGETHER HEARING GOD'S WORD

You will find suggestions for thinking more critically through the passage, meditating more intently on the text, and prayerfully seeking wisdom to deepen your understanding of the passage to be preached this Sunday.

Carefully Think

  • Read Exodus 10.  Why wouldn’t Pharaoh let the Hebrews leave Egypt even after all the plagues?
  • What does it mean for Pharaoh’s heart to be hardened? How did that happen and what was the cause?
  • How did Moses present the requests to Pharaoh?  What was Pharaoh’s response to each request Moses made?  How did their last encounter end?
  • What was the severity of the plagues recorded here?  Were the Hebrews affected the same as the Egyptians?  How was the land of Egypt described to Pharaoh?
  • How did Pharaoh respond to these plagues?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • What are the stated purposes of God’s actions in this chapter?
  • Why do you think Pharaoh was so unwilling to comply with Moses’ full request?  What reason did he give in vs. 10?
  • How pervasive were these two plagues?  Consider a few ways each plague would have affected daily life at the time.
  • Consider other passages of scripture that speak of locusts. What similarities do these passages have in common?
  • What do you think Pharaoh was expecting to result from his statement in vs. 28?
  • How do these plagues speak to the power of God? What do they reveal about his power and character?
