  • What are the titles given to Jesus and God in verse 16? What truth's do these titles convey by also combining them with the pronoun "our"?
  • The "who" clause helps us see more about who God is and what He has done. Examine how "eternal comfort" and "good hope" are by grace in relation to the entire letter.
  • In verse 17, the action verbs are what Paul is asking for to accomplish by God. How are hearts "comforted" and "strengthened" by good works and words?
  • Reviewing the context again, what "good works and words" is Paul referring to?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • Dwell on verse 16 and the rich depth of who our God is, seeing the attributes of God, in His character, His sovereignty, and His lovingkindness. In what ways do these truths impact you today? List several ways.
  • When we see the titles of Jesus and God, do you quickly pass over them in recognition, or do we marvel at our the God of the universe who rules and saves sinners and allows us to call Him Father? How can you seek to keep the impact of these truths at the forefront of your mind this week?

  • In what ways are we "comforted" and "strengthened" in living out our faith in good works and good words?
