Prepare your heart for the Sermon by looking through these suggestions that will assist you in making the most of our time together hearing God's Word.

You will find suggestions for thinking more critically through the passage, meditating more intently on the text, and prayerfully seeking wisdom to deepen your understanding of the passage to be preached this Sunday.

Carefully Think

  • To whom is the book written? For what purpose did Luke write to him? (v. 3-4)
  • How many births are foretold in ch. 1? (1:11-17 and 1:26-38)
  • What event marks the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry? This event is also significant in that it provides evidence for what theological truth? (3:21-22)
  • What does Jesus require of those who would follow him according to 9:23-24?
  • After Jesus rose, He appeared to travelers on the Emmaus Road. What did he use to explain himself? (24:27)

Prayerfully Meditate

  • What does Luke provide in 3:23-38? Who is the oldest ancestor that Luke includes in this list? Why is that significant?
  • How did the first disciples respond to Jesus calling them? (5:11)
  • Why is it significant that Jesus appeared to the disciples and others after his death?(24:13-49)
