Genesis - Summer 2017

Prepare your heart for the Sermon by looking through these suggestions that will assist you in making the most of our time together hearing God's Word.

You will find suggestions for thinking more critically through the passage, meditating more intently on the text, and prayerfully seeking wisdom to deepen your understanding of the passage to be preached this Sunday.

Carefully Think

  • Carefully think
  • Ready Genesis chapter 46. To where is Israel moving and what did he take on the journey?
  • What did Israel stop to do as he began the journey to Egypt? How did God address Israel and what all did He announce would happen?
  • How numerous are the people of Israel during this journey?
  • Where in Egypt did the people of Israel arrive? How were they received by Joseph?
  • What was the expected plan for Jacob’s sons as they were to live in Egypt? Why?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • Why do you think Israel offered sacrifices to the Lord on his journey?
  • How many people traveled to Egypt with Israel? How many were born to Joseph in Egypt?
  • Why do you think these families were recorded at this time?
  • How might this journey have been viewed by Israel in light of God’s promise recorded in Genesis 28:14-15?
