Genesis - Summer 2017

Prepare your heart for the Sermon by looking through these suggestions that will assist you in making the most of our time together hearing God's Word.

You will find suggestions for thinking more critically through the passage, meditating more intently on the text, and prayerfully seeking wisdom to deepen your understanding of the passage to be preached this Sunday.

Carefully Think

  • Read Genesis 39. Which people are the focus of this chapter and where do these events take place?
  • What is the main problem Joseph encountered? Who was responsible for this and what was the result for Joseph?
  • What were Joseph’s responses to the advances of Potiphar's wife?
  • What is stated about the Lord’s providence in Joseph’s life, both in Potiphar's house and in jail?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • What would you say about the Lord’s control and sovereignty through this chapter? Why?
  • From vs. 9, how did Joseph view the sin being proposed?
  • In light of vs. 21, how could Joseph’s circumstances have been worse? Could he have been tempted to despair?
  • How might you be tempted to respond if punished so harshly for a sin you didn’t commit?
  • How does this chapter fit in the larger message of the book of Genesis?
