Carefully Think

  • Read Matthew 17:14-23
  • Whose lack of faith was Jesus lamenting? (v. 17, 19-20)
  • What attribute is Jesus demonstrating in v. 18?
  •  Given the previous text we covered last Sunday (Matthew 17:1-13), why do you think Jesus is frustrated with His disciples?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • How has the glory of God been revealed to you? Think on what God has revealed to us in His word and in His faithfulness in our lives.
  • What should be our reaction to God's faithfulness?
  • What steps can we take to avoid a failure of faith like that of the disciples?
  • What is an area of your life where you have not been as faithful as you should be?

Intentionally Act

  • Pray for God to reveal to you an area where He wants your faith to increase.
  • Take a step of faith and trust in an area where you have been hesitant before.
  • Pray for the faith of our church body at large.
  • Consider how you can encourage believers you know to be strengthened in faith.
  • Spend time reading through the promises of God in Scripture.
  • Pray for non-Christians who will be present this Sunday to respond appropriately to God's word.
  • How should this text impact our congregation as a whole?
  • Pray that God will prepare our hearts for his work of grace this Sunday as we gather.
  • Pray for those who will be leading our gathering to edify the body well: Dawson Bryant, music; Adam Naler, Elders' Prayer and Scripture Reading; Bret Capranica, teaching.
  • Listen to the songs we will be singing together and meditate on the message of each song, and prepare yourself to sing together with the church on the Lord's Day.
