Elder's Prayer

Heavenly Father,

We praise you and thank you for this privilege of gathering together as one body, as people whose sins have been washed by the blood of the unblemished Lamb – your only begotten Son’s propitiatory sacrifice that brought us peace, enabling us to sing praises for the edification of each other, and to express our love for one another in this gathering of sojourners.

We praise you for the privilege of being baptized into one body and be made to drink of same the Holy Spirit.

We thank you Lord Jesus Christ for being the Head of this body and blessing each one of us with a manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.

We praise you for your sovereignty in distributing the spiritual gifts to each one of us as you willed that we might serve one another, that we might learn to regard each other as more important than ourselves following the example of the Head of this body, our Savior, our Master and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Please teach us what it means to serve as slaves of our Master and our Lord Jesus Christ.

As we care for each other in prayer and in tangible ways, please help us to do so in Christlike love.

Please help us to respond well for the glory of God even when provoked and not take into account a wrong suffered.

May our Christlike love be patient, kind, not jealous, not bragging, or arrogant. Please may we never act unbecomingly, or seek and sing our own praises, but rather please help us to bear all things, believe in all of God’s truths, hope based on all of God’s truths, endure all things and rejoice only with the truth and righteousness.

Loving Father, please protect us from condoning sin of any form intentionally or unintentionally in the name of love and evangelism. Please protect us from any blind spots that we are prone to in this area.

Please help us to discern Christlike Biblical love from our own definition of love or the world’s definition of love. Please help us to stand firm, rooted and built up in Christ and established in our holy faith.

We stand because you graciously make us stand. We praise you and thank you for that. Please help us to think soberly of ourselves, labor in prayer and embrace a spirit of gentleness.

Please help us, YAHWEH to not grow weary in doing good and in expressing Christlike love.

God the Father, would you please graciously protect us from ever growing cold in our love for you and for your people?

As people who claim the name of Christ, please help us to be the physical representation of Christ not only in this body of Christ but even in this world that we live in.

We pray this in the matchless name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
