Elder's Prayer

Please find below the notes from the Elder's Prayer this past Sunday.

You are the God who never changes, the God who is always just, the God who is always true. You are always compassionate, always present, always with your people. There is no other god like you.

So in you, we find strength, we find healing, we find security. Because you never change, we can always believe what your word says about you, about your love for us, and about your promises to your people.

The hope and endurance that we need in this life for our faith to last is found in you.

When life brings sorrow and mourning, you comfort us. Your spirit reminds us that we are your children and you are our father. When life brings loss, you always strengthen us.

When life brings injustice to us, you remind us not to lose hope. One day, you will bring true justice to all, right every wrong, and satisfy all who hunger and thirst for righteousness.

When life brings hatred to us because of your name, you remind us that you are with us. Even though the world hates us because they hate you, you will never leave us. You will always love us.

When life brings trouble and strife, you remind us that you bring peace to our hearts. Because you have united us to Christ, made us your sons and daughters, we can know a peace that is greater than any contention and turmoil that we will experience in this life.

When life brings persecution, you remind us that we will ultimately inherit the kingdom of heaven. While we experience insults, harassment, lies in our lives now, we look forward to a time when all of that is gone and replaced by peace and perfection and truth.

When life is difficult now, your spirit reminds us that life is short, temporary, but you are eternal, unchanging, right and just in all your ways. When we finally are with you, we will be with you forever.

What you are now, you will always be. You are our strength now and our strength in the future. You are faithful now and will be faithful in the future. You are just now and will be just forever. You are our hope now and our sight in heaven.

You are our joy, our happiness, our assurance, our hope, our security, our confidence, our anchor, and our reward.

Amen.
