Elder's Prayer

Please find below the notes from the Elder's Prayer this past Sunday.

You are powerful. You are holy. You are righteous in all that you do.

You are eternal. You are divine. You alone are the god worthy of our honor and praise.

We are naturally sinners. Ungodly, unrighteous, without excuse. Futile, foolish, exchanging your truth for our own lies.

Our lives were marked by our sin – evil, envy, strife, malice, arrogance, pride, disobedience.

And then your gospel saved us. You opened our eyes and changed our hearts.

You made yourself known to those who didn’t know you. You gave your righteousness to those who have no righteousness of their own.

We heard your gospel – that Jesus Christ saves. We read your gospel – from the prophets to David to Matthew to Paul – your son came into the world to save sinners.

Help us to share your gospel with others.

Remind us to pray for those we know who are lost, for how will they call on you if they’ve not believed?

Remind us that we are to share your gospel with others, for how will they know if someone doesn’t tell them?

Remind us that are to send out some to preach, for how will they hear without a preacher?

Remind us that we are made to glorify you, making your name known wherever we are, so that your voice goes out into all the earth.

Sustain us in our weakness, strengthen us against cowardice, help us to proclaim your return even in the trials of life. Enable us to endure in our faith, in our reliance on your word, in our eagerness at the coming of our Lord.

Amen.
