Psalm 1:1-3
How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of Yahweh, and in His law he meditates day and night. And he will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers.
Lord, thank you for the daily, on-going provision of everything we need for life and godliness.
We thank you this morning especially for your word, that we have guidance from you in the form of your word. And that, according to Psalm 119, your word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.
As new creations, we do not have to walk in the counsel of the wicked-we can walk in the counsel of your word.
The world is filled with so much sin and temptation, yet you have given us your word as a two-edged sword to battle against this evil that surrounds us.
You have also given us your word to delight in, to keep our hearts and minds focused on you.
Help us to discipline ourselves to meditate on your word, to take your word deep into our hearts and minds, that you would use it to refresh and strengthen us.
Please help us also to grow strong in the faith-to be like the tree in Psalm 1-firmly planted by streams of water yielding good fruit in season, not withering, but growing strong, and prospering all by your precious mercy and grace.
Help us now, this morning, to listen carefully to your word and that we would be impacted by it in a way that would cause us to follow you more closely and faithfully.
In Jesus’ name we pray…
