Elder's Prayer

Please find below the notes from the Elder's Prayer this past Sunday.

Our souls exalt you, Lord,

With all that we are we seek to magnify your greatness and your splendor. We want to show how big and how marvelous you are.

And our spirits have rejoiced in God our Savior. You are our greatest joy, our highest pleasure, our greatest delight is knowing you through your saving work.

For You have had regard for the humble state of your slaves; For you have looked upon us favorably through Christ, you look upon your unworthy slaves not with contempt, but compassion and saving care.

We are truly blessed. We know real, eternal blessing through Christ.

For You, the Mighty One have done great things for us; And holy is Your name. You are far above us, beyond us, unlike us, incomprehensible to us.

“AND yet YOUR MERCY IS UPON GENERATION AFTER GENERATION TOWARD THOSE WHO FEAR YOU.

“You have done mighty deeds with Your arm; You have scattered those who were proud in the thoughts of their heart. You have brought down rulers from their thrones, And have exalted those who were humble.

“YOU HAVE FILLED THE HUNGRY WITH GOOD THINGS; And sent away the rich empty-handed.

You have given help to Your people, In remembrance of Your mercy, Just as you promised.

You are so good to us. We are unworthy of the mighty and great deeds that you have done and are doing among us – saving the lowly, the despised, the sinful, the utterly depraved, the wicked, the rejected, the least – and sanctifying your people, though we are often stubborn and slow to listen, slow to learn, yet you faithfully bear with us, faithfully preserve us by your great grace through Christ.

Your saving works are great among us through Christ, through the preaching of your Word and the work of your Spirit, what you are doing in our midst is eternal.

We thank you and praise you for the mighty things you are doing by your grace.

Amen
