Elder's Prayer

Please find below the notes from the Elder's Prayer this past Sunday.

Father, we seek to bring glory to your name this morning. You are the most exalted, the most glorious, the highest of beings.

Your glory is supremely displayed in that your Son, truly God, co-eternal with you and the Spirit, the eternal Son took on flesh, and dwelt among us.

He displayed your glory even in his humiliation – the humiliation of the incarnation – he took the form of a slave, he added a lowly human nature to his divine nature and became obedient to death, even death on a cross.

He bore our griefs, he carried our sorrows, he suffered in our place, he died for our sins, he took your wrath, the punishment we rightly deserve so that we could have peace – peace with you and peace with one another. He died so that we could have righteousness – righteous standing before you, and so that we would live actually righteous lives.

Our Father, would you fix our eyes on your glory in the face of Jesus Christ, your Son and might we thus be changed – changed to be more like Him and less like our sinful selves. Bring glory to your great name through us we pray, in Jesus’ name, amen.
