Elder's Prayer

Please find below the notes from the Elder's Prayer this past Sunday.

Psalm 40:1-5

I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry

Lord we thank you that we can come to you and you do hear us, you hear our cries for help, our petitions and also our praises. Please help us to never fear or neglect coming to you with the needs of our hearts.

He drew me up from the pit of destruction out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure

Thank you, Father, for lovingly and graciously drawing us out of the path of destruction we were on before your Spirit brought us to Christ. We praise your goodness for setting us on a stable, solid path and making us secure in your love. Though we still sin and are tempted to go our own way from time to time, you have revealed to us what is true and what is good and will never let us go. You will keep us and never lose us.

He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord.

Lord, you have changed our trajectory, you have given us a heart of flesh. It is because of you that we can have true joy in our hearts and sing to you praises from our lips. We ask that you will cause many to see the changes you have wrought in our lives, the joy, peace and love that only can come from you, and will be drawn to your by your sovereign grace.

Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie!

We know we are blessed infinitely beyond what we deserve because you are our God, you are our confidence and trust. Help us to overcome any temptation, by you power, that would entice us to go after that which is false and deceptive. Please build our relationship and knowledge of you day by day as we spend time in your Word learning of your holiness.

You have multiplied, O Lord my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you! I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more than can be told.

Gracious God, your kindnesses to us are astounding and beyond our understanding. We can never know the fulness of the ways you care for us. Your thoughts and desires for our good are beyond comprehension. Though they are beyond measure, help us to have the boldness and confidence to tell others of them and especially to tell them of the Savior you have provided on our behalf.

In Christ’s name we pray...
