Elder's Prayer

We just sang a song based on Psalm 62.

I’m going to read that same Psalm and then pray based upon it.

Psalm 62:

[1] For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. [2] He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken. [3] How long will all of you attack a man to batter him, like a leaning wall, a tottering fence? [4] They only plan to thrust him down from his high position. They take pleasure in falsehood. They bless with their mouths, but inwardly they curse. Selah  [5] For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. [6] He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. [7] On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God. [8] Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah  [9] Those of low estate are but a breath; those of high estate are a delusion; in the balances they go up; they are together lighter than a breath. [10] Put no trust in extortion; set no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart on them. [11] Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God, [12] and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love. For you will render to a man according to his work. (ESV)

Let’s Pray.

Father God, as sinners we are prone to seek solace, comfort and refuge in many earthly places. Forgive us for when we fail to seek you alone for care, peace and security that only you can grant us. Remind us that you are our only steadfast hope. Remind us to grasp firmly as you are immovable and unchanging, providing protection that can never be shaken.

Some of us feel as if we have been under attack. We are weak. We are weary. We are discouraged. We are fighting bitterness. We have been unfairly accused. We have endured false accusations of wrongdoing. We have been treated unjustly. We are tempted to strike back against those who are inflicting us. Father, remind us our hope is not found in retaliatory efforts or the approval of men. Our only hope is found in you and you alone. You hear our cries as we pour out our hearts before you in prayer. Help us resist our urges to settle scores. You are faithful. You are our only refuge. Help us to trust in you more. Remind us of our glorious salvation through faith alone in Christ alone.

Remind us of your trustworthiness. Your word is certain. There is no room for equivocation. No rationale for doubt. All power belongs to you God. Your steadfast love brings hope. I pray that you will find our hearts settled and uncomplaining regardless of our circumstances. You are our rock and our refuge. Our salvation is sure. You call us and you seal us. You are the reason we shall not be shaken. You are worthy of all our hope, praise and confidence. We praise you for your grace and your mercy.
