Elder's Prayer

Please find below the notes from the Elder's Prayer this past Sunday.

Psalm 27:1-6

The Lord is my light and my salvation: whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

When evil doers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall.

Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident.

One thing I have asked of the Lord, that I will seek after, that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple. For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock.

We praise you, Lord, this morning, that you are our light, that you are our salvation. We have no one and nothing to fear…please remind us of that and never let us doubt that.

You are our stronghold; you are our protection. You will guard us and keep us, there is no need for us to be afraid, there is no need for us to worry. Thank you that our eternity is secure in You. Please strengthen our hearts when we are discouraged by those who hate you, help us to remember that the evil plans of our enemies, which are ultimately directed at you, will fail.  Yet, Lord, we do pray, that in your graciousness, you would turn the hearts of our enemies to yourself, that your Spirit would intervene in their lives and bring them to a saving relationship with yourself, while there is yet time…

Thank you, Lord, that you have given us this church and body of believers that we can worship with in your house. For the confidence that we will all be with you, gazing upon your beauty and worshiping you together, for all eternity. When we face challenges and fears, which we certainly will, may our constant hope and desire be to look forward to that day…in the meantime, please hide us in your shelter and help us to rest in your sovereign control of all that comes our way.

In Christ’s name we pray…
