Elder's Prayer

Please find below the notes from the Elder's Prayer this past Sunday.

We continue our worship this morning in prayer from Psalm 46:

1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling...
6 The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts.
7 The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
8 Come, behold the works of the LORD, how he has brought desolations on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the chariots with fire.
10 "Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!"
11 The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Lord, it is our pleasure and it is a privilege to see the works of your hands wrought. To witness your victory over sin and the world in the lives of people who have been saved - in the lives of people who have been changed from former patterns of disobedience to lifestyles of love for you, genuine love for others, a love for your word, and obedience to it.

Father, you are our refuge and our shield. Help us, in times of sorrow and need to seek your will first and none other. To immerse ourselves in the knowledge of your kingly sovereignty; your infinite wisdom and absolute ability; your grace, your love and mercy for those who are your children.

Grant us peace when there is turmoil around us and ever deepening trust in your promise of salvation and blessing. For the Lord of hosts is with us, and the God of Jacob is our fortress.

And it is in the name of his Son, Jesus, we pray.

Amen.
