Elder's Prayer

Please find below the notes from the Elder's Prayer this past Sunday.

Back in 2016, then IMB President David Platte preached on how to pray for the missionaries. I’m going use that to lead us in prayer for the missionaries in general and then our partnership in the gospel with the Central Asia workers. Let’s pray. God of all glory,

We praise you and thank you for this precious and rather unique opportunity to worship together unashamed and fearless in the history of Christianity.

We pray that this unique privilege in our generation would produce not complacency but more fervency and zeal to know and to do the will of the Lord as revealed in the Scriptures.

Father, just like you used the prayerful response of the Church at Antioch, please use our Church for the spread of the gospel.

Gracious Master, we pray for the gospel workers around the globe sent through various Churches.

  • We pray that the missionaries themselves would have the unshakable confidence in God’s word.
  • As they learn new culture, language and do humanitarian relief work, may they first and foremost confidently believe and proclaim the Word of God, staying true to the text.
  • We pray that they would be filled with the Spirit of God by being filled with the word of God.
  • Lord, we pray that gospel message would be explained clearly and boldly especially as they navigate cross-cultural communications.
  • We pray for the power of the Holy Spirit to accompany your word as its being shared.
    • Pray that the recipients of the gospel would clearly understand the character of God, the sinfulness of men, the sufficiency of Christ, the necessity of faith and the urgency of eternity.
  • Loving Lord, we pray that you would graciously use them to make disciples and multiply the Churches. May they graciously see the fruit of their labor if that be your will.
    • We pray that the local churches would be filled with people who believe and live out the word led by pastors who teach the word.
  • We beseech you Sovereign Lord that you would open hearts and draw people unto yourself through the faithful witness of our missionaries.
  • We praise you because you alone can give the increase.
  • We pray for the favor in the eyes of the unbelievers as the missionaries try to develop relationships and share the gospel with them.
  • Father, pray that you would protect your gospel workers and please continue to provide favorable opportunities for the gospel message to be shared.
  • God of all comforts, we beg you that the missionaries would remain joyful even in the midst of suffering in various forms and at various levels.
  •  Lord God, we pray for the gospel workers to be kind like their Savior in the midst of slander. We pray that the character of Christ and the power of His Holy Spirit will enable them to respond with grace.
  • We pray for Christlike humility to characterize the missionaries. We pray that you would help them to overcome the temptation to be prideful in their work by the power of the Holy Spirit.
  • We pray for the patience and perseverance as they face ups and downs, wins and losses, setbacks, beatdowns and struggles in their work. We ask your help for them that they might respond with longsuffering.
  • We pray that they would be strengthened and take comfort in the guaranteed victory in the spiritual warfare. Father, please let no missionary grow weary in doing good.
  • We pray for the missionaries’ peace with other believers, especially peace within their families, in their marriages, with their children, with companions and other ministry partners.

Father, I specifically remember our gospel partnership with the team of missionaries serving in Central Asia. We thank you for their commitment to make disciples of Lord Jesus Christ. We pray that your name would be glorified through their ministry. Please continue to bless our gospel partnership and use it to further your kingdom.

I pray for our members Robbie and Rachel who are serving in South Asia. Please bless them and continue to use them for your glory. Be glorified in our local, regional and global gospel work.

In your Son’s name, we pray. Amen.
