Elder's Prayer

Please find below the notes from the Elder's Prayer this past Sunday.

You are our great God, eternal, unchanging, sovereign. You rule all of creation with your word, every kingdom of the earth bows down to you.

You are holy and righteous and just. You are wise and great and powerful. You show us that power when you raise us from the dead and give us new life.

We were once dead in our trespasses and sins, indulging our sinful desires, children of wrath, of your wrath against sin.

But you are rich in mercy, but you love us with a great love, so you raised us up with Christ and seated us with Christ in the heavenly places.

Because we are now in Christ – and because you are a great God – you will always show the riches of your grace toward us.

We who were once far off have been brought near. We who were once strangers and aliens are now citizens of heaven. We who were once enemies are now friends, children, sons and daughters.

What other god is gracious toward his people like you are?

What other god makes himself known to his people like you do?

What other god draws his people near and holds them forever like you do?

Amen.
