Elder's Prayer

Please find below the notes from the Elder's Prayer this past Sunday.

You are great God. All of creation declares your greatness. Time and again, history shows your sovereignty, your power, your faithfulness. Your word tells us of your greatness.

You are the God who causes kings to reign and rulers to decree justice.

The heart of a king is like a channel of water in your hand, you turn it wherever you wish. You keep a king from sin, you harden a king’s heart in his sin.

You are the God who makes the nations great, you are the God who destroys them. You enlarge a nation, then you lead them away.

You are the God who deprives the leaders of the nations of their intelligence and makes them wander in a pathless waste.

You are the God who judges the nations because of their sin, you judge them because they forget you.

What other god has that power and authority over the nations? What other god can rule and judge the nations like you?

Even when you bring judgment, you remind your people that you have not forgotten them.

Psalm 37:7-11:

Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way…cease from anger and forsake wrath; do not fret; it leads only to evildoing. For evildoers will be cut off, but those who wait for the Lord, they will inherit the land. Yet a little while and the wicked man will be no more; and you will look carefully for his place and he will not be there. But the humble will inherit the land and will delight themselves in abundant prosperity.

And you are a great God who shelters and provides for his people. Even as you judge the nations for their sin, you give comfort to your people.

Matthew 11:28-29:

Come to me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Amen.
