Elder's Prayer

Please find below the notes from the Elder's Prayer this past Sunday.

My prayer this morning will be based off Psalm 25, a Psalm of David.

To you, O Lord, we lift up our souls. We are indeed dependent upon you. Help us see that need and that reality. Help us to trust in you and you alone. Because of our faith in you, we can confidently pray and petition you for help.

Give us confidence like David that those who trust in you will not be put to shame. We will not be destroyed. Our salvation will not be lost. Make our hope firm in you Lord. Make us know your ways Lord. Teach us your ways. We need your guidance. Make our minds teachable and our hearts humble. Create in us a desire to learn your ways as revealed in scripture and conduct our lives in ways that harmonize with your revealed will for us. For you are the God of our salvation and worthy to be sought, worthy to be pursued.

Father, we need your leading, we need your teaching and we also need your forgiveness. We are grateful that your compassion, your mercy and your lovingkindness are part of your character and that our sin and rebellion is not simply overlooked, but it has been covered by the righteousness of Christ.

Father God you are indeed good and upright. Because of this, we ask that you guide us in the right direction. In the right decisions. In the right judgements. We know you will remain true to your promises. We know when you pardon sin, when you forgive, the sin will never be remembered again in this life or in the life to come. We praise you for that promised forgiveness knowing our sin against you is indeed great.

I ask father that you will make us people who rightly fear you, who stand in awe of you and people who know your counsel. Help us to grow in our communion with you as we seek to know you better.

Father, when we find ourselves in distress or feeling alone, help us to keep our eyes focused on you, focused on continually seeking instruction from you. Help us to live and pray expectantly knowing that you are God, nothing is beyond your control, you will guard our souls, and you will ultimately deliver us. Help us to wait well and suffer with confidence, by looking forward to the day of redemption. It’s on that glorious day when we will realize our ultimate deliverance. Help us trust in you and your protection until that day. I pray our trust in you will be greater today than it was yesterday and by trusting in you more, we might bring you much glory.
