Elder's Prayer

Please find below the notes from the Elder's Prayer this past Sunday.

Let’s go to the Lord in prayer giving thanks to our King for who he is and how he demonstrates his ineffable love and tender mercies (based on Psalm 103).

Lord, you are merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love-and for that we give thanks this day and every day. You are our redeemer-you redeem us not because of any works done by us in righteousness, but only according to your mercy. You do not deal with us according to our sins-and they are many, nor repay us according to our iniquities-which we deserve, but rather Your word tells us you will remember our sins no more. You cover them with the blood of Christ-your only Son whom you sacrificed on our behalf out of your love for us. We know that as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is your steadfast love toward those who fear you; and as far as the east is from the west, so far do you remove our transgressions from us. You are a compassionate Father to us, your children, our days on this earth are like grass; we flourish like the flowers of the field; but the wind passes over us, and we are gone and the earth knows us no more. But, as for you, Lord, you are not bound by time as we are, your steadfast love is from everlasting to everlasting and because of that, our hope is way beyond our earthly lives.  You have established your throne in the heavens, Your kingdom rules over all-and it is there our hope lies-and for that we give thanks.

Father, thank you for revealing yourself to us today and every day.

Thank you for pouring your Spirit out on us that we may increasingly know
and understand you as you’ve revealed yourself to us by your word.

Thank you for the hope of eternal life that is guaranteed by your Son who
justified us by his grace-according to your mercy.

Thank you in the name of our precious savior-Jesus Christ-Amen.
