Elder's Prayer

Please find below the notes from the Elder's Prayer this past Sunday.

After God’s chosen people, the people of Israel, were delivered from the hands of the Egyptians, Moses and the people sang this song...

Exodus 15:

1 ..."I will sing to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.
2 The LORD is my strength and my song,
and he has become my salvation;
this is my God, and I will praise him,
my father's God, and I will exalt him.
3 The LORD is a man of war;
the LORD is his name.

11 "Who is like you, O LORD, among the gods?
Who is like you, majestic in holiness,
awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders?

13 "You have led in your steadfast love the people whom you have redeemed;
you have guided them by your strength to your holy abode.
14 The [enemy has] heard; and they tremble…

16 Terror and dread fall upon them;
because of the greatness of your arm, they are still as a stone,
till your people, O LORD, pass by,
till the people pass by whom you have purchased.
17 You will bring them in and plant them on your own mountain, the place, O LORD, which you have made for your abode, the sanctuary, O Lord, which your hands have established.
18 The LORD will reign forever and ever."

Father, how grateful we are that you redeem!

That from the beginning your plan has been to preserve and purchase a people for your own glory!

And you reign… forever and ever you reign. There is no danger of your purpose ever being threatened. For you are “majestic in holiness,
awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders”.

You are just… vindicating your own righteous acts. Putting to silence those who oppose you. Reminding your chosen people of your sovereign character, and displaying your unequaled power and ultimate authority to your enemies.

You are gracious…. You lead in your steadfast love the people whom you have redeemed. You guide them by your own strength to the very place where you dwell. For those whom you purchase, there is promised rest, peace, even your presence for eternity.

You, O Lord, will reign forever and ever!

We sing to you for you have triumphed gloriously.

You are our strength and our song, and you have become our salvation.

You are our God. Help us now to praise and worship you!

Amen.
