Elder's Prayer

Please find below the notes from the Elder's Prayer this past Sunday.

Gracious Father,

We thank you for sustaining us through the last 11 months of this year and bringing us to the 12th month. We praise you and thank you for you remained our rock and refuge throughout all our years. Your faithfulness, your love for your children, your word, covenants have never changed. We praise you for your unchanging nature.

May your name be glorified through our obedience to the Scriptures.

Lord, we thank you for the privilege of witnessing our brother Josh Dowd’s obedience to the Scriptures in Baptism. Thank you for enabling him to boldly proclaim his faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and be united with the local body of believers this morning.

We thank you for this great symbolism that helps us to put on display - the death, burial and the resurrection of Christ as well as our death to sin and new life in Christ Jesus.

When we were children of the darkness, dead in our trespasses and sins, we could not even think of life and light. But here we are, by your purest grace, alive in Christ Jesus, and being heirs to the unspeakable heavenly blessings through Christ who made an end to all our sins. We thank you.

Holy Father, would you please help the members of Summit Woods to no longer be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming but instead by your purest grace, please help us to speak the truth in love and to grow up together in all aspects into Christ Jesus who is the head of the Church and build up ourselves in Christlike love (Ephesians 4:3-16).

We praise you and thank you for your everlasting love.

As we begin this Advent season in 2019, please protect us from becoming a Martha, being distracted, worried and bothered about so many temporal things. Instead, may we be a Mary and choose the good part which shall not be taken away from us (Luke 10:38-42).

We pray this in the name of your only Begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
