Preparing for the Sermon - Heaven Help Our Worship Pt. 4 - Singing
May 30, 2024 Preparing for Sunday
PREPARE YOUR HEART FOR THE SERMON BY LOOKING THROUGH THESE SUGGESTIONS THAT WILL ASSIST YOU IN MAKING THE MOST OF OUR TIME TOGETHER HEARING GOD'S WORD.
You will find suggestions for thinking more critically through the passage, meditating more intently on the text, and prayerfully seeking wisdom to deepen your understanding of the passage to be preached this Sunday.
Carefully Think
- Read Colossians 3:16 and Ephesians 5:19. What are we to have dwell inside of us as believers according to these verses?
- How should this dwell in us? To what extend should that dwelling take place according to Colossians 3:16?
- What are the means by which we can pursue having the word dwell in us according to the verse? Hint: There are three "ing" verbs in the verse.
- Are these consumeristic activities or investment activities? Explain.
- What should the heart condition be of those participating in these activities?
Prayerfully Meditate
- According to Colossians 3:16 and Ephesians 5:19, is singing an optional activity for the believer? What might this mean for your singing?
- How is singing an activity for the betterment of others? In what ways does singing benefit the body of Christ? Be specific with a variety of answers.
- According to these passages the heart condition beneath the singing is critical to consider. What does it mean to make a melody with your heart? How might that be different than being emotional in singing?
- How should singing engage your emotions rightly? Justify your answer.
- Investigate other passages that include "one another" references. Make a list of other activities believers are to participate in as members of the body of Christ according to these other passages.
