Prepare your heart for the Sermon by looking through these suggestions that will assist you in making the most of our time together hearing God's Word.
You will find suggestions for thinking more critically through the passage, meditating more intently on the text, and prayerfully seeking wisdom to deepen your understanding of the passage to be preached this Sunday.
Carefully Think
- Read 2 Thessalonians 2:13. What is directly stated about the original recipients of this letter?
- Why was Paul so thankful for them?
- How did their salvation come about? How did their sanctification come about? What was God’s role in both?
- What is stated as the object of their faith (only from this passage)? What would that entail (implied)?
- Who are the believers in this verse contrasted with (but)? How might that increase Paul’s thankfulness for them?
Prayerfully Meditate
- How often does Paul believe he should be thankful for these people? Why do you think that is the case?
- What is most often the subject of your thankfulness to God? Do other believers and their salvation permeate your thankfulness?
- List several ways you can be thankful imitating Paul’s gratitude in this verse.
- What role does the truth, referred to in this verse, play in your salvation (or anyone’s)?
- Can or should this verse flavor our evangelism? How so?
