Prepare your heart for the Sermon by looking through these suggestions that will assist you in making the most of our time together hearing God's Word.

You will find suggestions for thinking more critically through the passage, meditating more intently on the text, and prayerfully seeking wisdom to deepen your understanding of the passage to be preached this Sunday.

Carefully Think

  • Read Matthew 6:9-13. What are the requests in 6:13? What does it mean to go “into temptation”? Is this the same as being tempted?
  • Why would we pray that God wouldn’t “lead” us into temptation? What does this mean?
  • What is contrasted with being led into temptation in Matt 6:13? What does it mean to be delivered from evil? How does this contrast help us understand the request of the verse?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • Consider your approach to dealing with temptation. Where does prayer fit in your approach? How might this prayer in Matt 6:13 begin to shape how you deal with temptation?
  • Consider 1 Tim 6:9, 1 Cor 10:13, and 2 Pet 2:9. How do these passages help you distinguish the difference between being tempted and entering into temptation?
  • How might the request in v. 13 shape your prayer life this week for yourself and others?
