Prepare your heart for the Sermon by looking through these suggestions that will assist you in making the most of our time together hearing God's Word.

You will find suggestions for thinking more critically through the passage, meditating more intently on the text, and prayerfully seeking wisdom to deepen your understanding of the passage to be preached this Sunday.

Carefully Think

  • Read Exodus 3:9-11 to set the context, then read Exodus chapter 4 as the focus for this week.
  • What was Moses' concern and how many times was it expressed?
  • What assureances did the Lord give Moses?
  • What was the resolution?
  • Describe the signs that were to be given.
  • Why were thy given?
  • What dilemma did Moses face in vs. 24-26?
  • How was it resolved?
  • How did the people of Israel respond to the message spoken by Moses and Aaron?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • How can you relate to Moses' concern or hesitation about the Lord's instructions?
  • What was the reason for God's anger in vs. 14?
  • Have you ever responded to a call to obedience as Moses did?
  • Consider the importance of what Moses was instructed to do.
  • How would you describe Moses' reasoning for the hesitation to obey God?
  • What reason did Moses give Jethro for his departure in vs. 18? Was this accurate?
  • Do you think Moses' response still showed a hesitancy toward obedience or not?
