2 Thessalonians Sermon Image Square

Prepare your heart for the Sermon by looking through these suggestions that will assist you in making the most of our time together hearing God's Word.

You will find suggestions for thinking more critically through the passage, meditating more intently on the text, and prayerfully seeking wisdom to deepen your understanding of the passage to be preached this Sunday.

Carefully Think

  • Read 2 Thessalonians 2:1-2
  • How Does this passage relate to chapter 1?
  • What is Paul requesting of the brethren?
  • In regard to what two things does Paul not want the Thessalonians to be quickly shaken or disturbed?
  • What are the three means by which they might be shaken or disturbed in v. 2?
  • What is the content of the message by which Paul does not want them to be disturbed?
  • What are some characteristics of the Day of the Lord that Paul has communicated in Chapter 1 of 2 Thessalonians?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • Why would Paul be concerned about the Thessalonians understanding of the Day of the Lord?
  • How does a right understanding of the day of the Lord effect our faith on a day to day basis?
  • Looking back at verse one, Paul calls this a “request.” What does that imply about the Thessalonians ability to comply? Can they decide not to be shaken/disturbed by this report?
  • Where could a misunderstanding of the day of the Lord come from today?- How does the hope that Jesus is coming and that we will be gathered to Him provide stability and calm, the opposite of shaken composure and disturbance? Can you name a time that this knowledge helped you keep your composure in the midst of disturbing news?
  • How would you summarize the teaching of this passage in one sentence?
