20170917 preparing post

Prepare your heart for our Sunday Morning Gathering by looking through these suggestions that will assist you in making the most of our time together.

You will find tangible suggestions for putting scripture to action in your personal life and in our corporate body, links to the songs we will sing, and lyrics for you to prepare for our corporate singing.

Please see the Preparing for the Sermon post for suggestions in thinking more critically through the passage, meditating more intently on the text, and prayerfully seeking wisdom to deepen your understanding of the passage to be preached this Sunday.

Intentionally Act

  • Re-read 1 Corinthians 9:1-14. What is your reaction to the point that Paul is making? What is your attitude toward those who are fully financially supported by a church for preaching the gospel?
  • Have you personally experienced someone who used this passage as an abuse or a means other than intended? If so, how did that affect your view of this passage and of others who are fully supported by a church? If needed, pray that the Lord will soften your heart toward those who are financially supported by their devotion to ministry.
  • Pray for those you know who are financially supported for leadership in a church,
especially those at Summit Woods. Pray that their motivation will be to shepherd the church and not for financial gain. Ask the Lord to guide and bless them in the management of stress and time, as they seek to balance each aspect of their lives.
  • Click the links below to find the lyrics and recordings of the songs planned for our gathering this Sunday; practice the songs, study the lyrics and sing together.
  • Pray for those leading our corporate gathering this week and for the Holy Spirit’s work as the Word of God is further explained and applied: Dawson Bryant: music; Rob Stouffer: Elders' prayer & scripture reading; Bret Capranica: teaching.
