Prepare your heart for our Sunday Morning Gathering by looking through these suggestions that will assist you in making the most of our time together.

You will find tangible suggestions for putting scripture to action in your personal life and in our corporate body, links to the songs we will sing, and lyrics for you to prepare for our corporate singing.

Critically Think

  • Read 2 Timothy 3:1-4:5.
  • What reason does Paul give for the difficulty which comes in the last days?
  •  What is connected to godliness in 3:12? How does this compare with the "godliness" of 3:5? (Cf. 1:8)
  • What two things mark all of Scripture in 3:16?
  • According to 4:3-4, why does Paul go on to charge Timothy to preach Scripture to others (4:1-2) instead of simply urging him to continue in the truths of Scripture himself (3:14)?
  • How does Paul solemnly charge Timothy? Why?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • If we are given wisdom for salvation and equipped for every good work by Scripture, then what salvation or good works can we do without God's Word?
  • If Scripture brings people to Christ and equips them for good works and godliness, what does this say about the people Paul describes in 3:2-9?
  • What does God's Word produce in those who devote themselves to it according to this passage?
  • What characterizes those who don't devote themselves to God's Word according to this passage?

Intentionally Act

  • Where do you see the characteristics mentioned above in your own life, and what do those say about your devotion to the Word as it has been preached to you?
  •  Based on this passage, how would you answer the question "Why do people require preaching? Why is it not just optional or important, but necessary?"
  • How will your answer shape your approach to the preaching here at Summit Woods?
