Sermon Text for Sunday: Romans 12:1-2

Critically Think

  • Read Romans 12:1-2
  • What is Paul urging in verse 1? What two commands does Paul provide in verse 2?
  • Who is Paul speaking to?
  • What are the Mercies of God?
  • What does it mean to present your bodies?
  • What is the dictionary definition of sacrifice?
  • What two descriptions are given to the sacrifice?
  • What does Paul mean by living sacrifice? Support your answer with scripture.
  • According to the text, how and why are we to be transformed?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • What does, spiritual service of worship, mean? Investigate these words and support your answer with scripture.
  •  What does “conforming to the world” look like? List several examples. See also 1 John 2:15-16.
  • How do we renew our mind? Explain your answer with a few different passages of scripture. Consider 2 Timothy 3:16 and Psalm 119:9-11 for support.
  • How does not conforming to the world, but instead being renewed in the mind prove what the will of God is?

Intentionally Act

  • What does it mean for you to live as a living sacrifice personally? What must be sacrificed?
  • How does this passage expand the way you think (or should think) about worship?
  • How does this passage impact the way you think about service? What might this mean for how you serve God and others?
  • How can you pursue growth in renewing your mind?
  • Are there areas of unholiness you need to repent of? If so, confess these and turn to Christ.

  • Pray for those leading our corporate gathering this week and for the Holy Spirit’s work as the Word of God is further explained and applied: Joel Conrad: music; Brett Harris: elder prayer & scripture reading; Mark Krystyniak: teaching.
