Prepare your heart for our Sunday Morning Gathering by looking through these suggestions that will assist you in making the most of our time together.
You will find tangible suggestions for putting scripture to action in your personal life and in our corporate body, links to the songs we will sing, and lyrics for you to prepare for our corporate singing.
Critically Think
- Read Revelation 22:16-22.
- In verse 16, who identifies himself as the speaker? What does he state that He’s done, and through whom?
- What did Christ state as his purpose for sending his angel? What was the angel instructed to testify about?
- In the second half of verse 16, how does Jesus identify himself?
- Read Isaiah 11:1 and Isaiah 11:10. How are the ideas of a “shoot/branch” and a “root” related to David’s line? How do these observations help you understand Jesus’ statement in Revelation 22:16?
- In verse 17, who are the two voices that first say “Come”? Who else is invited to say “come”? Finally, who is invited to come, and what is offered to the one who comes?
- In verse 18, who gives the warning about the words of the prophecy, and who specifically is warned?
- What two actions are warned against in verses 18–19 regarding the words of this prophecy? What are the consequences of each?
Prayerfully Meditate
- Read the following passages and note what each says about thirst or living water, (Isaiah 55:1, John 4:13-14, John 7:37-38). What similarities do you observe between these passages and Revelation 22:17?
- Consider v. 17. Do you see yourself as someone who is spiritually thirsty, or have you grown comfortable and self-sufficient? Are you actively coming to Christ, or are you trying to satisfy yourself elsewhere?
- Read 18-19 once more. Do you feel an appropriate weight of handling God’s Word rightly, or do you treat it too casually?
- What final blessing closes the book in verse 21? Look back at the beginning of Revelation, particularly 1:3. What connection do you observe between the beginning of the book and its closing words?
Intentionally Act
- Read once more and consider the calls to ‘Come’ in v 17. If you have “heard,” are you also effectively saying “Come” to others? Who in your life needs to hear this invitation from you?
- Consider vv. 18-19 once more. How can you take more care in representing Scripture accurately to others in your circles of influence (family, church, work, school, etc.)? Do you distinguish clearly between what the text says and your own interpretation or opinion? How can you grow in being a faithful steward of God’s Word?
- As we come to the end of the book of Revelation how have your thoughts changed about this book? What is your biggest takeaway?
