Book of Revelation Sermon Title 1
Prepare your heart for our Sunday Morning Gathering by looking through these suggestions that will assist you in making the most of our time together.

You will find tangible suggestions for putting scripture to action in your personal life and in our corporate body, links to the songs we will sing, and lyrics for you to prepare for our corporate singing.

This week’s sermon will be a topical message on interpreting the Bible biblically. The sermon will be surveying many passages rather than one single passage. Please take the time to consider the passages listed here and consider how they relate to interpreting the Bible biblically as you prepare for Sunday.

Critically Think

  • Read Revelation 16:12-21 through three times in succession. Then close your Bible and attempt to list the events in sequence and in detail as best as you can from memory. Go back and check. What did you miss? What did you get right? What details stood out to you as primary and noteworthy?
  • Where does this passage fit into the sequence of seal, trumpet, and bowl judgments?
  • Based on the information given, should we approach this passage from a metaphorical/symbolic or literal view? Why or why not?
  • How many angels are mentioned in verses 12-21?
  • Verse 12 states that the sixth bowl is poured out on the Euphrates to dry it up, “so that the way would be prepared for the kings from the east.” What does the passive tense of the verb (would be prepared) reveal about who is in control of the circumstances leading up to the events at Har-Magedon?
  • In verse 17, the angel pours out the seventh bowl on the air. Compared to the six bowls prior, how does the mention of “air” contribute to our understanding of the scope of this judgment?
  • Read Haggai 2:6 and Hebrews 12:26-27. How does Revelation 16:12-21 fulfill these prophecies?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • Summarize the main idea of Revelation 16:12-21 in 21 words or less.
  • In the revelation of the sixth bowl judgment, we are given a parenthetical statement: “Behold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is the one who stays awake and keeps his clothes, so that he will not walk about naked and men will not see his shame.” Where else in Scripture is this warning given? Who is this directed to? Why is it significant at this juncture?
  • Based on what we have seen previously and in context, who speaks in a loud voice in 16:17? What does it mean that “It is done?
  • Babylon is mentioned throughout Scripture, as well as prior to chapter 16 in the larger context of Revelation, and is in no danger of being forgotten. What does verse 19 mean that “Babylon the great was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of His fierce wrath”?
  • What is the response of mankind to the plague of enormous hailstones? What is noteworthy about this response?

Intentionally Act

  • How should Revelation 16:12-21 reassure believers? What impact or warnings should it apply to unbelievers?
  • If we are trusting in Christ, what significance does this passage bear for believers?
  • In what ways should this passage challenge us to examine our attitudes, motivations, and emotions? How should it impact our everyday lives in our families, communities, and workplaces?
  • How should Revelation 16:12-21 inform our private devotion to God? Our corporate worship? Our evangelism?
  • This is the last sermon on Revelation for a while as we switch gears to Exodus for the summer. Review your notes from the Revelation sermons so far. List out several action steps you can take to apply these sermons this summer.
