Sermon Text for Sunday: Revelation 12:13-17

Critically Think

  • Read Revelation 12:13-17.
  • Based on verse 12:13, how is this woman described? Who is she? What other verse does this clearly tie to in chapter 12 that confirms this identity?
  • In verse 12:14, why does the woman receive the two wings of the great eagle?  (Hint: look for the “so that”)
  • Compare 12:14 to verse 12:6. Examine the last statement in both verses regarding the woman being “nourished.” What is the difference in the amount of time?
  • List the different names used for Satan in verses 12:13-17.

Prayerfully Meditate

  • What is the purpose of the serpent pouring out water from its mouth? (Hint: look at the “so that”)?
  • What does the contrast in 12:15 and 12:16 illustrate about Satan’s power compared to God’s?
  • What is the dragon’s response in verse 16? What other emotional responses has the dragon had in Chapter 12? Is it intensifying? Why?
  • Who would the children of this woman be identified as based on 12:17?
  • Why did Satan switch from the child, to the woman, to her children in anger?

Intentionally Act

  • How can we take comfort in Satan’s failed attempts found in chapter 12?
  • With what intensity should we have boldness for Christ knowing and seeing that no harm can come to those He protects until it is their time?
  • Reflect on 12:17 and 12:11 in the actions of believers.  Examine your life and faith in light of those qualifications.
