Sermon Text for Sunday: Psalm 96

Critically Think

  • Read Psalm 96.
  • How is the Lord described and what is stated about Him?
  • What is instructed or commanded in this passage?
  • Are there to be any limits to the declaration of praise and worship of the Lord?
  • How does creation (other than people) declare the greatness of the Lord?
  • What will the Lord do in the future?  What details are given?
  • Are there any limits to the Lord and His majesty in this Psalm?  Explain.

Prayerfully Meditate

  • Does this Psalm appear to be instruction for daily life or a specific event or gathering? Support your answer.
  • List the key words throughout this passage? Why are these key words?
  • Why do you think vs. 13 is part of this passage?
  • How are false gods described and how are they contrasted against the Lord? Make a list.
  • Describe how prevalent the praise of the Lord is to be. What are the implications of this?
  • How often does your life reflect the instructions of this Psalm?  In what ways are you lacking?

Intentionally Act

  • Reflect on your relationship with the Lord.  How specifically does this Psalm encourage praise in your own life?
  • Repent of any sin that came to light during the study of this passage.
  • Consider someone you know who is not a follower of Christ.  How could this Psalm be employed in your witness of the Gospel?
  • How could this passage
  • Pray for the Holy Spirit’s work among our congregation during the preaching of this passage this Lord’s Day.
