Sermon Text for Sunday: Psalm 100
Critically Think
- Read Psalm 100.
- What is the tone of this Psalm?
- Who is the object of the Psalm?
- Is this Psalm directed to a specific group/audience?
- What are the seven commands given?
- What responses are to be expected considering these commands?
- What does "shout for joy to the Lord" mean and how can you express exuberant praise?
- What are you supposed to know about yourself according to verse 3?
Prayerfully Meditate
- How does this Psalm shape your understanding of the Lord your God?
- How does your relationship to the Lord affect your worship according to the Psalm?
- Are these commands dependent on your feelings or circumstances? Explain.
- How can you praise and worship God with your actions and attitudes no matter what comes in your daily life?
- What does it mean to ‘know’ God in verse 3? How do you get to ‘know’ the Lord? Consider Colossians 3:16.
- How does the reminder of God's “faithfulness and lovingkindness" affect your response to Him in worship and service?
Intentionally Act
- What quality of God stands out to you from Psalm 100? (Creator, Shepherd, goodness, steadfast love, faithfulness, etc.) How does this motivate you to serve Him? Consider also Psalm 86:15.
- Praise/Worship is not a feeling. It is an expression of faith in God’s mercy and goodness. Are there times when it’s difficult for you to express joy and thanksgiving to God? How can you overcome these challenges? Consider David’s example in Psalm 42 and Psalm 13.
- While the Psalm encourages singing and shouting, are there other ways to express genuine praise and thanksgiving to God beyond your vocal expressions? Explain.
- How does Psalm 100 portray God's character, particularly His goodness and faithfulness, and how does this understanding motivate your worship?
- Pray through this psalm in your own words. Consider memorizing this Psalm.
