Preparing for Sunday - Matthew 23
Carefully Think
- Read Matthew 23:1-36
- What is the major critique Jesus is leveling at the Pharisees and scribes?
- How might verses 6-12 apply to the modern church?
- Was Jesus criticizing the attempts at piety by the Pharisees or their attitudes which drove them?
Prayerfully Meditate
- Pray that you might avoid the pitfalls that the religious leaders of Jesus' day fell into.
- Consider if there are any areas of your life where you are under the bondage of man made commandments.
- Think through your public walk with the Lord. Are there any areas where verse 5 might be a caution?
Intentionally Act
- Spend time thinking through your day and consider your motivations.
- Pray for the gathering of Summit Woods this Sunday, that the Lord would use this passage to sanctify those who know him and bring others to salvation.
- Pray for those who will be leading the service this week: Dawson Bryant, music; Brett Harris, Elders' prayer and Scripture reading; Bret Capranica, teaching. Pray for protection of their hearts and for their families as the lead us corporately in worship.
- Listen to the following songs and prepare for singing in our corporate gathering this Sunday.
Songs for Sunday
- Praise God
- Glorious and Mighty
- Have Mercy on Me
- O My Soul, Arise
