DNOW 2026
Prepare your heart for our Sunday Morning Gathering by looking through these suggestions that will assist you in making the most of our time together.

You will find tangible suggestions for putting scripture to action in your personal life and in our corporate body, links to the songs we will sing, and lyrics for you to prepare for our corporate singing.

Critically Think

  • What does the first person in verse 57 say to Jesus? What does his comment "wherever you go" imply?
  • What is Jesus' response in verse 58? What contrast does Jesus draw?
  • What does Jesus say to the second man in verse 59? What is his response?
  • In what two ways does Jesus respond to the man's hesitation in verse 60?
  • What does the third man say to Jesus in verse 61? How does this compare to the first two?
  • How does Jesus respond? What point is He making?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • Since Jesus did not respond approvingly to the first man, does this mean it's wrong to want to follow Jesus everywhere? Why or why not?
  • Is it wrong to want to bury one's own father? What point was Jesus making when He said "let the dead bury their own dead"?
  • Read 1 Kings 19:19-21. What is similar in that account to Luke 9:61-62? What is different? Why?
  • How does Jesus challenge each man's view of discipleship?

Intentionally Act

  • Read Luke 5:11, 27-28; 9:23-24; 18:22-23, 28-30. What does it mean to follow Jesus in Luke's gospel? What are some specific examples of how you are following Jesus in this way in your life?
  • According to this passage, is saying that you do or will follow Jesus enough to bring you into His kingdom? What is required?
  • What is one of your greatest hurdles in laying down your life to follow Christ? How does this passage address that hesitation?
