Prepare your heart for our Sunday Morning Gathering by looking through these suggestions that will assist you in making the most of our time together.
You will find tangible suggestions for putting scripture to action in your personal life and in our corporate body, links to the songs we will sing, and lyrics for you to prepare for our corporate singing.
Critically Think
- Read John 3:11-15.
- Who are the “we” and “you” Jesus references in v.11? (see also John 3:2)
- Why was the testimony not accepted? (John 1, John 3:19-20)
- Read Numbers 21:1-10. What did God accomplish through Moses and the lifting of the bronze serpent?
- How would the Son of Man be lifted up? (v.14)
- What’s the significance of the word “must” in v.14?
- What is the result of the Son of Man being lifted up and how is that accomplished? (v.14-15)
- What is the difference between the saving act God provided Israel in the wilderness and the saving act God provides through the Son of Man?
- Does the eternal life God offers through Christ for believers begin now or in the future? (John 17:3)
Prayerfully Meditate
- How were the Pharisees hindered from accepting the testimony?
- What did Nicodemus do that showed a lack of understanding of the earthly, much less spiritual, things Christ was revealing?
- What aspect of Christ’s authority is revealed in v.13 to proclaim both earthly and heavenly things? (Proverbs 30:4)
- What do both the bronze serpent and the Son of Man reveal about the source of salvation?
- Will all believe in the Son of Man, according to v.15?
Intentionally Act
- Is a blindness to heavenly things still present today? What’s the solution?
- How would you describe how Jesus presented the gospel to Nicodemus in this passage?
- What misconceptions of the gospel are exposed in this passage?
- How do Jesus’ words correct those misconceptions?
