The Gospel According to John Sermon Image
Prepare your heart for our Sunday Morning Gathering by looking through these suggestions that will assist you in making the most of our time together.

You will find tangible suggestions for putting scripture to action in your personal life and in our corporate body, links to the songs we will sing, and lyrics for you to prepare for our corporate singing.

Critically Think

  • Read John 2:1-11.
  • What event is happening in these verses? Where was it located?
  • How many signs had Jesus performed up to this point in his life?
  • What was the sign Jesus performed in this text?
  • What were Jesus’s three commands in verses 7,8? What was the servant’s response to them?
  • How many gallons of new wine did Jesus produce?
  • Did Jesus perform the sign publicly or privately. Did all the people know what happened?
  • How did Jesus manifest His glory? Who witnessed this manifestation?
  • What did the headwaiter say to the bridegroom? Do you think the headwaiter was surprised when he tasted the wine?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • Why do you think John does not use the name Mary in this passage in referring to Jesus’s mother?
  • Why do you think Jesus’s mother told him about the wine being gone? What do you think she expected him to do?
  • Who knew where the new wine came from at the wedding? (V9, 11)
  • In John 2:11 we read that event was a sign. What is a sign? What is the purpose of signs? (see John 20:30-31)

Intentionally Act

  • What does this passage teach us about the person of Jesus?
  • Summarize this passage in 21 words or less.
  • Pray that our hearts would be prepared to receive and be submitted to the word of God on Sunday.
