A Highview of Scripture
Prepare your heart for our Sunday Morning Gathering by looking through these suggestions that will assist you in making the most of our time together.

You will find tangible suggestions for putting scripture to action in your personal life and in our corporate body, links to the songs we will sing, and lyrics for you to prepare for our corporate singing.

As we prepare to begin a new study of the Gospel of John on Sunday, consider listening again to the overview of the Gospel of John we looked at a few years ago. So You May Believe and Have Life in His Name. (Message begins at 36:43)

Critically Think

  • Read John 1:1-5.
  • Who is described as the ‘Word’ in this passage? See also John 1:14-18.
  • Did anything come into being without "The Words" involvement?
  • What does the statement that "all things came into being through him" reveal about the deity of Jesus?
  • What is said to be in "The Word" according to vs. 4?
  • What does verse 4 say that the life was?
  • What can we conclude about “The Word” from this passage?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • Why do you think John started in Ch.1 explaining that Jesus is God?
  • What does it mean that the Word was with God and that the Word was God?
  • What is unique about “The Word” being both with God and being God? How is this contradictory to our human way of thinking?

Intentionally Act

  • How does the deity of Jesus Christ in these verses make a practical difference in a believer's life?
  • Look up these passages. How can Jesus’s light can encourage your spiritual walk. John 8:12, John 12:46, John 1:4-9, John 9:5, Revelation 21:23.
  • Pray that you would worship Jesus as your highest authority and greatest treasure.
  • Click the links below to find the lyrics and recordings of the songs planned for our gathering this Sunday; learn the songs, study the lyrics and sing them with others.
  • Pray for those leading our corporate gathering this week and for the Holy Spirit’s work as the Word of God is further explained and applied: Dawson Bryant: music; Rob Stouffer: elder prayer & scripture reading; Bret Capranica: teaching.
