Prepare your heart for our Sunday Morning Gathering by looking through these suggestions that will assist you in making the most of our time together.

You will find tangible suggestions for putting scripture to action in your personal life and in our corporate body, links to the songs we will sing, and lyrics for you to prepare for our corporate singing.

Critically Think

  • Read the following passages to prepare your hearts for the upcoming sermon: Genesis 1:26, 5:1-2, 9:6, 1 Corinthians 11:7, James 3:9, Colossians 1:15 & 3:9-11.
  • Based on Genesis 1:26, what responsibilities or roles are immediately connected to being made in God’s image?
  • After reading Genesis 5:1-2, what phrases from Genesis 1 are repeated, and what does the passage emphasize about humanity’s identity?
  • How does Genesis 9:6 connect the value of human life to God?
  • Read 1 Corinthians 11:7. How does the verse use the words “image” and “glory”? Are they treated as identical, or related but distinct?
  • Based on James 3:9, what problem is James exposing about inconsistent speech?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • How do Genesis 1:26, 5:1-2, and 9:6 together define the basis for human worth and accountability?
  • How does James 3:9 interpret the ethical weight of how we speak to others, considering being in God’s likeness?
  • Read Colossians 1:15. How might Christ being the image shape how we understand humanity being made in God’s image?
  • After reading Colossians 3:9-11, how might “renewal” language connect to the restoration of God’s image in people?

Intentionally Act

  • Where do I need to align my daily habits with the reality that I belong to God and reflect Him?
  • In what specific relationships am I tempted to treat someone as less-than the image of God because of their political views, age, class, ethnicity, or past conflict?
  • What steps can I take to honor the image of God in someone I find difficult?
  • What “old self” patterns do I need to put off intentionally, and what “new self” habits should replace them?
  • Click the links below to find the lyrics and recordings of the songs planned for our gathering this Sunday; learn the songs, study the lyrics and sing them with others.
  • Pray for those leading our corporate gathering this week and for the Holy Spirit’s work as the Word of God is further explained and applied: Colten Honigman: music; Sam Karl: elder prayer & scripture reading; Dawson Bryant: teaching.
