Critically Think

• Read Genesis 50:15-21, specifically focusing on verse 20 for this sermon.
• Who was speaking in vs. 20 and who was that person speaking to?
• What is the “evil” referred to?  For context also see chapter 37. 
• How is God portrayed in this verse?
• What was perceived as “good”.
• How were many people preserved alive?  What event(s) does that refer to? Also see 41:25-42:5.

Prayerfully Meditate

• What did Joseph recognize about God’s purpose in the circumstances between himself and his brothers?
• How could God have “meant” someone else’s evil actions for good?
• What did Joseph believe God was in control of?
• How would you describe the link between God’s sovereignty and the evil actions of Joseph’s brothers?
• Joseph recognized the evil was only intended against him, yet contrasted with “good” impacting “many”.  What does this indicate about God’s grace?

Intentionally Act

• How did you respond last time an evil circumstance effected you? 
• Has there been a time in which you experienced a good result from the evil actions of someone else?  What was your response to God?
• Consider God’s power in the contrast between the number of people impacted by the “good” that God caused compared with the “evil” Joseph’s brothers inflicted. Describe in your own words.
• Repent of any sin that came to light during the study of this passage.
• Consider how to use this passage in your witness of the gospel to an unbeliever.
