Prepare your heart for our Sunday Morning Gathering by looking through these suggestions that will assist you in making the most of our time together.

You will find tangible suggestions for putting scripture to action in your personal life and in our corporate body, links to the songs we will sing, and lyrics for you to prepare for our corporate singing.

Critically Think

  • Read Exodus 20 and then reread Exodus 20:8-11.
  • What are commands have preceded the command given in vs. 8-11?
  • What is the basis for the commands given in chapter 20? Look at 20:2 and 19:4 for reference.
  • What command is given in vs. 8-11?
  • To whom does the command extend? Look at vs. 10.
  • What is the reason given for remembering the sabbath and for keeping it holy?
  • What does it mean that God made the sabbath holy?
  • What does it mean to keep the sabbath holy?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • Read Genesis 1-2:3.
  • What is the rhythm established in this account and how is it mirrored in Exodus 20:8-11.
  • Examine Genesis 2:1-3 and Exodus 20:8-11. Make a list of the similarities and differences that you see.
  • What is the meaning of “remember” in vs. 8? What would the opposite of remembering the sabbath look like?
  • Why would God call his people to remember the sabbath and to keep it holy?

Intentionally Act

  • Summarize Exodus 20:8-11 in 21 words or less.
  • Pray that our hearts would be prepared to hear and submit to the word of God preached on Sunday morning.
  • Personally reflect and confess any sinful heart attitudes that you have harbored this week and prepare your mind to worship with God’s people on Sunday.
