Prepare your heart for our Sunday Morning Gathering by looking through these suggestions that will assist you in making the most of our time together.
You will find tangible suggestions for putting scripture to action in your personal life and in our corporate body, links to the songs we will sing, and lyrics for you to prepare for our corporate singing.
Critically Think
- Read chapter 20:1-26. What is the immediate context of vs. 18-26?
- Review your sermon notes and Pastor Bret’s outline of the book of Exodus. How does this passage fit into the whole book of Exodus?
- List the terrifying signs taking place in vs. 18. What is the people’s response to these signs?
- What purpose for God’s coming is explained by Moses in vs. 20?
- How would you summarize the instructions given in vs. 22-26?
- List the things that shall be done and shall not be done that are given in vs. 22-26.
- Why does the LORD give instructions for the building of alters?
- What special instruction is given in vs. 26 and what is its purpose?
Prayerfully Meditate
- What does it mean to fear God?
- How can Moses tell the people to both not be afraid and to fear God?
- Why would the fear of God keep someone from sinning?
- What does God’s instructions concerning the ways He is to be worshiped in vs. 22-26 teach us about Him and His character?
Intentionally Act
- Summarize Exodus 20:18-26 in 21 words or less.
- How can you cultivate the fear of God in your life?
- What things other than God have you pursued this week? Take time to search your heart and to confess areas where you have not been exclusively devoted to the Lord.
