Prepare your heart for our Sunday Morning Gathering by looking through these suggestions that will assist you in making the most of our time together.

You will find tangible suggestions for putting scripture to action in your personal life and in our corporate body, links to the songs we will sing, and lyrics for you to prepare for our corporate singing.

Critically Think

  • Scan through the next several chapters. What is Exodus 19 setting up for the remainder of the book?
  • Where do the Israelites set up camp in verses 1-2? What is the significance of this location in Exodus (see 3:12)?
  • What is the foundation of God's words to Israel in verse 4?
  • What is the requirement for Israel in verse 5?
  • What is God's promise to Israel in verses 5-6?
  • What did God require of the Israelites to stand in His presence in verses 10-17?
  • What marked the presence of God on Mt. Sinai?
  • What were the people forbidden from doing according to verses 21 and 24? Why?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • What does this chapter say about God's purpose for Israel?
  • Read Hebrews 12:18-24. How does the author of Hebrews compare Israel's experience with God and Mt. Sinai in Exodus 19 with the church's experience with God and Mt. Zion? How should you respond to this difference?
  • Read 1 Peter 2:4-10. How does Peter compare Israel's identity and calling in Exodus 19:5-6 with the church's identity and calling? How should you respond to this similarity?
  • Think of our sermon study through the book of Revelation. What marks the presence of God in heaven (see Revelation 4:5, 8:5, 11:19, 15:8)? How does this compare to the presence of God on Mt. Sinai? What does this say about how we should consider the presence of God?
  • Review the consecration requirements for the Israelites to stand before God. What is required of us to stand before the presence of God today? How should this motivate you both to joyful thankfulness and holy fear?

Intentionally Act

  • Write down a list of praises to God for His mercy, His holiness, His election, and His presence that you've seen from this passage. Praise God for these things throughout this week.
  • How can you prepare yourself each day to live in God's presence? What does this look like in your daily life?
  • How does this passage encourage your love for Jesus? Who could you share this love and encouragement with this week?
  • Click the links below to find the lyrics and recordings of the songs planned for our gathering this Sunday; learn the songs, study the lyrics and sing them with others.
  • Pray for those leading our corporate gathering this week and for the Holy Spirit’s work as the Word of God is further explained and applied: Colten Honigman: music; Sam Karl: elder prayer & scripture reading; Bret Capranica: teaching; Dalton Vansell: Lords Table.
