Sermon Text for Sunday: Exodus 16
Critically Think
- Read Exodus 15:22-27 for prior context. Read Exodus 16.
- What were the people grumbling about in Exodus 15:22-27? How did the Lord provide?
- What are the Israelites grumbling about in Exodus 16?
- How long did it take for them to complain about their needs after their previous testing with the water?
- Who do they complain to? Why does this matter?
- What do the Israelites remember in Exodus 16:3? What should they have remembered from the lesson they learned in Exodus 15?
- The Lord gives instructions for Israel in his provision for them, what does Exodus 16:4 say is the reason for the instruction?
- How do the Israelites respond to Yahweh's instructions?
- How does the Lord respond to them?
- What is the point of Exodus 16:32-36 for the Israelites?
Prayerfully Meditate
- How should the Israelites respond to their hunger needs?
- What was God's purpose in leading them to this next trial?
- How do we see God's instructions? Do we see them as testing our faith? Can we accomplish them on our own?
- What is the basic response we should have to the Lord and His Word?
- How do we typically respond to trials that seem more than we can accomplish in and of ourselves? Have you had any trials like that this past week, month, or year?
- What is the biblical category of a typical sinful response to trials? (Mark 6:6)
- What should be our our response to trials? (Mark 9:24)
Intentionally Act
- How can you address unbelief (not-trusting) God in His word?
- Meditate on what our response should be to God's trials and testing in our lives (James 1:2).
- Go to the Lord in repentance quickly for unbelief and ask for His grace to grow our faith and obedience.
- Ask the Lord to show us ways as a congregation to encourage and exhort one another to this end.
- Meditate on the lyrics of the songs for this week and remember the Lord's salvation in your life both initial and continual.
